The Las Vegas police have stumbled upon a mysterious monolith that appeared in the Nevada desert over the weekend, sparking a wave of speculation about its origin, reports BBC.
“We see a lot of strange things… but look at this!” the police exclaimed on social media platform X, after spotting the monolith during a search and rescue mission.
The structure is reminiscent of other monoliths that have surfaced globally, especially in the U.S., throughout 2020. Typically, these monoliths are tall, rectangular, and reflective, according to the British public broadcaster.
Located near the Gass Peak hiking area in Las Vegas, the monolith stands on rugged terrain, prompting the police to question on social media how it was placed there.
It bears a striking resemblance to the monoliths depicted in the iconic film ‘2001: A Space Odyssey,’ directed by Stanley Kubrick in 1968.
In 2020, a similar monolith was found in the state of Utah by a helicopter pilot, followed by sightings in Romania, California, the Isle of Wight in England, and atop a hill in Wales.
Despite ongoing questions about the origins of these monoliths and speculations about them being part of an artistic installation, no one has claimed responsibility for their creation or placement, the British public broadcaster notes.
MYSTERIOUS MONOLITH!
We see a lot of weird things when people go hiking like not being prepared for the weather, not bringing enough water… but check this out!

The First Sighting of Monoliths
The phenomenon of mysterious monoliths first came to public attention in late 2020, when a shiny metal pillar was discovered in the remote Utah desert. This initial finding captured the imagination of the world, as the monolith stood starkly against the red rocks of the desert. The mystery deepened when the monolith vanished just as suddenly as it had appeared, only to be followed by similar structures cropping up in various parts of the globe.
Claims of Alien Origin
Adding to the intrigue, many ufologists have claimed that these monoliths might be of alien origin. They argue that the precision and locations of the monoliths suggest they are not merely human-made art installations but could be markers or messages from an extraterrestrial civilization. While no concrete evidence supports these claims, the mysterious nature of the monoliths continues to fuel speculation and fascination around the world.
